Norman Bird sanctuary
2020 - 2023
As one of the stone wall pilot programs, Norman Bird Sanctuary was identified as an ideal site to continue the volunteer program in the fall of 2020. With over 325 acres of diverse habitats, trails, and stone walls, this historic site has been attracting visitors for over 70 years. Following a similar model as Glen Farm, Robert Faraone trained groups of volunteers over the course of two days, preparing them to help with wall repair throughout the 7 week season. Much like Glen Farm, these walls were in serious disrepair after years of exposure to the elements and surrounding vegetation. Approximately 1,000 feet of wall was repaired over the course of three volunteer seasons, creating a transformative visual experience along Third Beach Rd and at the entryway to the Norman Bird Sanctuary.
